Diet Vegetarian
Maintaining a good balanced diet in the
absence of one entire food group, such as
meat and poultry, is very difficult and of
course not natural!

All the studies indictate the body
needs food from all the food groups to
remain healthy.
Meat and other animal products contain
quite significant quantities of important
nutrients including protein, calcium and
the B group of vitamins.
Many studies have demonstarted the
importance to good health of a balanced
diet. But a diet rich in all the vitamins
and minerals and necessary for a healthy
body can present a challenge for vegans
and vegetarians.

Maintaining a correctly balanced diet
in the absence of one entire food group,
such as meat and poultry, is very
difficult and of course not natural! All
the studies indictate the body needs food
from all the food groups to remain
healthy. Meat and other animal products
contain quite significant quantities of
important nutrients including protein,
calcium and the vitamin B group.
Vegetarian diets present an even larger
problem than the vegetarian diets because
vegans go that one step farther and
eliminate dairy products including eggs as
well as meat from their diet. Vegans
nearly always have trouble getting the
vitamin B12 their bodies need and usually
rely on vitamin supplements for this
nutrient.
But none of the above actually means
that vegans and vegetarians cannot enjoy
good healthy foods. Many vegans and
vegetarians in fact enjoy levels of health
much better than their non-vegetarians
friends. But it does mean that this group
of people need to pay a lot more attention
to their dietary needs and to be aware of
the signs of dietary deficiencies.
