When you are a diabetic, effective diet management and control are prerequisites for the stabilization of your blood sugar levels. A regular lifestyle, with a sensible diet control plan and regular exercise will work wonders for you in your efforts to manage this disease.

You must always remember this important fact: although it is true that diabetes is a condition of sugar regulation, you need not assume that this entails specific restrictions of sugars, except when it is a part of your overall diabetic diet plan.

In general, a diabetic diet plan revolves around the assumption that you, as a diabetic, have to consume a certain required percentage of your everyday calorie requirements, from the 'macro-nutrients', or in other words, from the food groups of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

While twenty percent must come from proteins, and a thirty percent from fats, fifty to sixty percent of your daily diet must come from carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates like jam, sweet drinks and ice creams are a strict 'No' for a diabetic, because of the fact that these simple sugars would be quickly absorbed by your body and digested. This would cause an immediate upsurge of blood sugar levels in your body, and you must try to avoid this as far as possible.
