Complex carbohydrates, on the other
hand, must be included in your diabetic
diet plan, and these would include foods
like whole wheat or wholegrain breads,
whole wheat pasta, brown rice, beans, oats
and most vegetables and fruits. These
foods are absorbed gradually by your body,
and would take more time to be digested,
and this would enable you to regulate your
blood sugar levels effectively.
The more strictly you are able to
follow these regimented percentages and
recommended foods, the better it will be
for you, especially in the long run. This
is because, as you must be aware of, you
must as a diabetic, have the same amounts
of sugar released into your body, on a
regular basis, and your ultimate goal must
be to maintain normal blood sugar levels,
as far as possible, in your body. This
will be effective in helping you to gain
control over the disease.
What is important for you as a diabetic
to remember is the fact that just because
you have been diagnosed as a diabetic, it
does not mean that you need to give up
chocolates and other sweet treats
immediately; a diabetic diet plan is a
plan that is designed to suit any average
adult, and the most important ingredient
in this plan is to choose your food intake
wisely, and adopt good and sensible eating
habits. Try to work in an exercise regimen
into your daily routine, and there you go,
gaining good control over diabetes.
 
If you are overweight, then you must
lose weight to control your diabetes
better. However, aim to lose weight
gradually, over a period of time, instead
of drastically. Remember, a diabetic must
never attempt crash diets, because this
would interfere with your blood sugar
levels and cause complications.
If you feel that you are not able to
reach your ideal weight, try to lose a
small amount at least, and then make your
best efforts in keeping off the lost
weight. In essence, eat wisely, and
exercise regularly, and thereby gain good
control over your diabetes.
